Last weekend, the Lady Cavaliers had a pre-season tournament at Gardner Webb...
Game 1: VS Gardner Webb...The game started out strong and our defense was flawless... Both teams had big bats, however which allowed us to stay neck and neck. In the end, we couldn't get ahead, and the game ended 4-4. The game was extremely upbeat and I know that, if we had one more inning, we could have pulled ahead for the win. Way to go ladies!
Game 2: VS Stanley Community College... We must have been tired, because game 2 started slow. Energy was down, but we were determined to not be beat. The majority of the game was spent at 0-0. Late in the game, however, a Montreat error led to a Stanley run. In the next inning, however Jamie Lokken, Montreat center fielder, sent high fast ball over the fence, tying it up 1-1. Time ran out, and that is where the game ended.
Not taking home a win was disappointing, but not taking home a loss was reassuring.
Lady Cavs have another pre-season tournament this weekend at Winthrop University. Watch for more updates to come!
Keep up the fantastic work Cavs!

Welcome Back Coach Swanson!
Last night, Monday the 13th, Coach Swanson's plane landed in Asheville from his home in Iowa. We are so excited to have our coach back, especially with a tournament at Gardner Webb coming up this weekend. While we are a team of many new faces, I know that together we can unite and defeat any enemy we may come across. Thank you so much to all of my sisters for their devotion and hard work thus far. And thank you to my coaches for supporting and guiding us. Now, let's go out this weekend and show them what we are made of! :)

Happy Birthday to Coach Payne
Last night, under the cover of darkness, my teammates and I made our way to Coach Payne's office to decorate it for her 24th birthday.
Along with streamers, balloons, ribbons, and a pinata, we also wrapped her entire office with aluminum foil... everything down to the scissors on her desk to keep her from cutting through the foil too easily.
Afraid she might get upset, we went down to see her when she found her office this morning, and instead of anger, we saw tears of joy. She loved that we had taken that much time to give her a birthday surprise.
We love you Coach Payne and we appreciate all that you do for us! I hope you have a fantastic 24th birthday!

Innocence of a Child
It is funny to think about being a child again... we all tried for so long to grow up.
"I can't wait to be 16."
"I can't wait to get my full license."
"I can't wait to graduate high school."
"I can't wait to go to college."
"I can't wait to graduate college."
"I can't wait to get my own place."
The list goes on and on.
But now that I am where I am, I would rather be a child than any other thing in the world.
There is an innocence found in children that cannot compare to the knowledge of adulthood.
I have 3 younger sisters, and there are times when I wish I could be 10 again... Just to not have to worry about certain things. To just be alive.
That is one things that kids can do incredibly well: live. They live the way life was meant to be lived. One moment at a time. They don't have a day-planner, or a to-do list. They just live and enjoy it while it lasts. For some reason, when we reach a certain age, that all just slips away.
God, what I would give to once again have the innocence of a child.

Breaking In
So, this is my first time at this blogging thing, but I'm hoping that it works out okay. Today, I really just want to give an introduction as to what I hope to share with the world via Living the Calling.
In my life, I have found that there are people who either chase something they aren't meant to have or run from something that they are meant to have. Why is that? Why is it so hard to simply accept the life we have been giving. I have a theory. I believe that the reason it is so hard for us to go with the path set before us. It is all about control. As human beings, we need to feel in control. Surrendering that control, whether it be to God or to another human being, is absolutely terrifying. Thus, we resist.
I don't think that we all do this on purpose, or even consciously. But I do believe that we all do it. In my life, the hardest thing I ever had to do was allow God to take me to the college I am at now. It is so little and so close-knit. And I like my personal space. But, because I allowed myself to give up the reigns of my life, I have had the most amazing experiences at Montreat. I am a part of the BEST group of girls through the softball team, I have amazing friends that I can count on 24/7, and I have discovered what I love most, and who I love most.
To offer a little bit of advice, yes, giving God control is scary, and it isn't something that you can do over night. But, as backwards as it sounds, there is nothing more freeing than surrender. I believe with every fiber of my being that we are each called to fulfill a purpose. That could be a purpose for this day, for this month, for this year, or for your lifetime, but nevertheless we are meant to fulfill it.
So, go into your world and Live the Calling.
